Pennsylvania, Maryland & Virginia Saddle Fitter

Bitting Problems

Bitting problems begin with the horse having been fitted with a bit that is:

  • The wrong size in length (lip to lip)
  • The wrong thickness in the mouthpiece
  • The wrong action for the problem
  • The wrong mouthpiece for comfort
  • Paired with the wrong noseband action
  • Paired with the wrong noseband fit
  • Too much poll pressure
  • Not allowing correct relaxation and mouth function

Solving the problems means understanding:

  • The structure of the head
  • The mouth shape you are fitting
  • The action you want
  • The biomechanical use of the head by the horse
  • The way to produce relaxation and mouth function correctly

Bit Fitting Advice

We offer an advice service to help you decide which bit is correct for your horse. We will work to help you solve problems with the tongue, bars, lips, and palate.

A lease a bit service is available, this allows you to try a bit for 30days then return it if you don’t find it appropriate. The bit is charged to a credit card; if the bit is returned 90% of the cost of the bit is refunded minus the postage. We also lease nosebands in the same manner.
